👋 Hello I must Be Going!
April Studio Update: Art Travels & Graphic Designs
I’m back from LA and now I’m heading off to South Carolina!
This past month has been a whirlwind of prep work for my mini solo show at La Luz de Jesus Gallery and my upcoming residency at ArtFields!
The show was a success (2 pieces already sold!) and I was so grateful to be at the opening in person.
I’ve now packed up all of my sticker making materials so that I can embark on creating the largest sticker artwork of my career (and possibly the largest made by anyone ever).
I’m recreating the painting Heart of The Andes, which I recently visited at The MET in NYC. The painting is 10 feet wide and 5 feet tall and I’m attempting to recreate it at actual size.
I also designed a massive collaborative sticker art mural that the community is invited to complete!
If you’re in the South Carolina please come visit me at ArtFields in Lake City while I’m at work. I’ll be there from April 10-24 and again from April 30-May 3. Be sure to message me if you’re heading that way so I can know to expect you!
And if you’re in the LA area, there’s still time to see my show at La Luz de Jesus before it closes on April 29th.
Did you know I used to be a graphic designer?
Recently I’ve had the opportunity to dust off my old graphic design skills to do a couple of projects that I’m happy to share with you…
I created a logo for my friends at The Tomorrow Company. It took me a minute to remember how I did this kind of work, but it was great to collaborate with such thoughtful people. They even included some background on the logo on their website if you’re curious to know more. I’m really happy with the end result and I’m excited to see these folks succeed with such a wonderful business model. I’ll be sharing the process of making this logo in a future post.
I also created art for a new album from Michael Harrison. I’ve been designing his album covers for many year via my collaboration with the label Cantaloupe Records. This album is the first in a cycle, that will result in eight releases over a few years. So the challenge was to come up with a design that would have enough flexibility that it could be used as the basis for all of the future releases. I’m looking forward to having people discover how these all fit together once the entire cycle comes out. I’ll also share more about the process of making this album in a future post. You can listen to the entire album now HERE.
NEXT UP
April will be pretty much non-stop work at my residency, but I’ll be back in my studio in May working on commissions. Want an original piece of your own? Now’s a good time to get in touch.
Thanks for reading!
