New Sticker Art
I finished the latest piece in my ongoing of America series based on plates of now extinct species from The Birds of America. I had been avoiding doing the Great Auk, because the image was so different from all of the others I’d been working with (it’s horizontal, has no white background, and features sea birds). However, when I read about the history of the Great Auk I realized what a powerful story it was to share in this moment in history. If you’re not familiar you can get an overview from this article in The Smithsonian from a decade ago (TL;DR it’s not a happy story).
This is one of the largest pieces I’ve created from stickers and definitely the most difficult in terms of subtle color usage. I’ve submitted it as my entry for next year’s ArtFields so wish me luck.
If you wan to know more about this piece and it’s meaning to me (and see some additional detail images) check it out in my portfolio HERE.
New Exhibition
I’m happy to share that my piece of America: Ivory Billed Woodpecker is on display starting today at the Chapel Hill Public Library. It’s part of the exhibition Technique & Dreamscapes in Contemporary American Collage and will be on display through December 13th. If you’re in the Chapel Hill, North Carolina area I hope you’ll check it out in person.
I won!
I’m incredibly honored that my piece Huddled Masses I-IV won first place in the mixed media category of the 49th International Juried Art Show at the Brownsville Museum of Fine Art in Brownsville, Texas! The show is up through October 23rd if you happen to be in the area and want to see it in person.
October is #CreativeSprint time!
Every year in October my company shares a month of daily prompts to get people inspired to exercise their creativity! This year we’re posting prompts from our Creative Sprint cards on LinkedIn. If you use that platform you can join our private group to stay updated and share your work. You can also follow me on there as well!
Why not try out today’s prompt and see what happens: Make a face using only the contents of your wallet, pockets or purse (or other bag).
Thanks as always for your support of my work!
